Why your story matters

When a family first hears the words, the most useful thing anyone can hand them is not a statistic but somebody else’s account of the same week. Cerebral palsy affects about 1 in 345 children, so there are a great many families who have already been through the appointment you are dreading, and most of them remember what nobody told them at the time.

There is no such thing as a story too small. A first independent step, a new word, a good week after a hard month, a piece of equipment that finally fitted, a school that got it right. Practical detail helps more than encouragement does: which waiting list moved, what a district actually funded, which question got a straight answer.
