Summer Camp for Children with Cerebral Palsy Opens Free July Session

Chris Schroeder - Author

A new program seeks to give the time-honored experience of a week away at summer camp to every child, regardless of their limitations. From July 23–27, 2025, this extraordinary camp experience—fully funded and completely free—is dedicated to children with cerebral palsy.

It’s a space where kids can fish, explore trails, laugh around campfires, and even take the stage in a talent show, all with around-the-clock support from medical professionals and trained staff.

The 2025 summer session is made possible by a generous donation from FindAway4Kids, in partnership with Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and Camp Boggy Creek. This collaboration marks the first fully-funded summer camp session in Florida dedicated solely to children with cerebral palsy.

Outdoor Activities Show Promise for Those with Cerebral Palsy

Nature has a remarkable way of helping children stretch beyond what they thought possible. For children living with cerebral palsy, outdoor activities like swimming, boating, archery, and woodshop aren’t just fun—they’re therapeutic. Movement, exploration, and creative play in a structured and supportive environment can improve coordination, boost confidence, and create new neural pathways. This is particularly true when activities are intentionally designed for kids with mobility or sensory needs, as they are at Camp Boggy Creek, Florida’s renowned medically safe summer camp.

Impact of Social Settings for Those Living with Cerebral Palsy

One of the biggest hurdles after a cerebral palsy diagnosis is the social isolation some children experience. Group activities in inclusive settings offer more than just fun—they provide belonging. Campers will meet others who share their challenges and joys, creating friendships that often continue long after the tents come down.

Social connection is essential to emotional health, particularly for children managing physical differences. Camp Boggy Creek helps children with CP feel seen, understood, and celebrated—not just accommodated. They’re not "kids with CP" here. They're just kids—trying new things, sharing inside jokes, and growing more confident every day.

Designed with the Needs of Those with CP in Mind

Camp Boggy Creek was created to remove the limits that a medical condition can impose on childhood. With 24/7 on-site medical staff, fully accessible cabins, adaptive equipment, and trained volunteers, this camp is as safe as it is magical.

Highlights of this year’s CP-focused session include:

- Fully accessible cabins and activity centers

- Personalized care plans and medication management

- Adaptive equipment for activities like boating and archery

- Support from pediatric specialists and camp counselors.

The camp serves children ages 7 to 17, welcoming both first-time and returning campers. Every experience—from swimming to crafting—is designed to support physical development and self-esteem while maintaining safety and fun at the center of it all.

The Camp Boggy Creek Legacy of Service

Nestled on 232 acres of pine forests and shaded oak groves near Central Florida, Camp Boggy Creek has a decades-long reputation for serving children with chronic and life-altering medical conditions. Founded on the belief that illness should never rob a child of their right to play, the camp has served thousands of families across Florida and beyond.

Their commitment to inclusion, joy, and adventure makes it an ideal setting for a cerebral palsy-specific summer session. The setting is serene, the programming is joyful, and the team is committed to ensuring that every camper leaves with lifelong memories and a renewed sense of possibility.

FindAway4Kids Mission to Improve the Lives of CP Families

FindAway4Kids is a global organization that aims to uplift children facing medical, educational, and financial hardship. Their programs extend from providing adaptive medical devices and pharmacy access to launching new schools and arts programs in underserved communities. This summer camp initiative reflects their broader mission: giving children the tools and opportunities to reach their full potential, regardless of diagnosis or circumstance.

Helping those with cerebral palsy live a normal life

The chance to build core childhood memories despite your condition often starts with experiences like this. A cerebral palsy diagnosis doesn't mean a child won’t laugh, explore, perform, or grow. It simply means they may need support to do it safely and successfully.

Programs like this prove that childhood joy, adventure, and independence are entirely possible with the right people and programs behind you.
